Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird has just announced that he’ll be going on tour with his new band Hands of Glory later this year. Bird and the gang will kick things off on June 6 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, from there they’ll make their way South to Washington D.C., North Carolina, Tennessee, Tulsa, OK; Austin, TX, and Colorado. After that, they’ll head North to play Toronto on July 4, Ottawa on July 5, and returning to New York on July 8 to play Central Park Summerstage. After that it’s a series of shows in New England and Canada, finishing out the tour with a run in Cali including gigs in Saratoga and San Diego, and a final show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 21.

After finding much critical praise but little commercial success with his first band Bowls of Fire, Andrew Bird made a name for himself as a solo act in the indie music scene in the early 2000s. Known for his live shows using a variety of instruments, including the violin, looping pedals, guitar and even whistling, Bird’s unique sound mixes folk, country, bluegrass, jazz, and rock. Since going solo, he’s released six studio albums and six live albums. Hands of Glory takes its name from Bird’s 2012 album and features Bird’s regular on-stage collaborators guitarist Tift Merritt and stand-up bassist Alan Hampton, as well as Bowls of Fire veteran Kevin O’Donnell on drums and newcomer Eric Heywood playing pedal steel guitarist.
