RHCP bassist Flea and the now-broken-up Mars Volta members Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, and Dave Elitch have combined forces to form the new band Antemasque. Surprising? Not really. Flea has played bass on a majority of Mars Volta’s 2003 debut album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, as well as trumpet (yep, Flea plays the trumpet, too) on their 2005 follow-up. After several months of speculation, the group has finally released an initial round of tour dates which sees them all up in Texas, Arizona and California. Sorry North Easterners, you’ll just have to wait.

Michael Peter Balzary (aka Flea) is a bassist and co-founding member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. He’s also made cameos in bands like Fear and Jane’s Addiction. Mars Volta was formed in El Paso, TX in 2001, boasting Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Juan Alderete, Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, and Deatoni Parks. The band announced their breakup in 2012.
