Prince Billy & Dawn McCarthy Tour

Bonnie “Prince” Billy & Dawn McCarthy have announced about two weeks worth of tour dates this summer to support their recent collaboration, What the Brothers Sang, a selection of covers they recorded of songs by The Everly Brothers. Billy, a favorite on the American folk scene who once recorded with a variety of “Palace” groups, is collaborating with McCarthy for the third time. The album has 13 classic tracks and, according to the duo’s site, they’ll also have four European performances before returning to North America for their shows beginning in Alaska and the Yukon Territory. The then turns to the Mid Atlantic and finishes at a Kentucky Revival.

All of the songs Dawn McCarthy & Bonnie Billy selected for this particular record are from the 1950s Great American Songbook. The Everly Brothers are credited with influencing the harmony styles of rock ‘n roll staples The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Simon & Garfunkel. It will be interesting to see how Dawn & Bonnie Billy put their spin on the classic steel guitar and two-part harmonies that were the signature of The Everly Brothers. On the dates, look for some combination of Emmett Kelly, Cheyenne Mize and Van Campbell.
