UPDATE 11/6/2012

The off-again, on-again status of Cat Power’s upcoming European tour is, officially, off. Once again using Instagram as the chosen medium of choice, Chan Marshall posted the following explanation to fans:

As many of my fans know, I’ve been suffering from angioedema. It can attack at random & is extremely frightening and dangerous when it hits my throat, windpipe, or tongue, and I’ve been hospitalized for it eight times since the first attack, 2 DAYS AFTER MY RECORD RELEASE.
Since then, I worked very very hard with all the best allergists, cardiologists, neurologists, accupuncurists, homeopathists & renowned healers that I could find, Body Talk, Reiki, Yoga, etc. so that I COULD DO THIS AMERICAN TOUR.
I did my best & I want to do MORE & BETTER.
The American tour has been wonderful and amazing, and with me being unable to AFFORD to bring my show with full production, (which i helped create) to Europe, financially, really dumped a huge additional amount of stress on me as i was and still am fighting trying to get tour support.
I have to postpone my European tour until early next year, so I can return home and re-engage myself back into my health regimen.
    I fucking love my fans.
Everything I do regarding my career, I FIRST, think of my fans and this world we all share.
But right now, I HAVE TO think of myself because I have to learn trough meditation & being clear from alcohol & cigarettes & red meat and lots of rest amongst my menagerie of doctors…. I have to think of MYSELF right now because I have to now LEARN to heal myself.
Through that, I can learn to help others to heal themselves.
I know my fans will understand and I thank them and love them much more than I believe they could ever know.
I am here and do what I do, for them and because of them.
You have kept me alive this long, I refuse to give up on you OR MYSELF.
And that goes to all the journalists who write a true story as well. To you all in the struggle. May light be on your path at every step.
    XXx
    Love always

Power will finish out the rest of her US tour, which ends this Thursday in LA.

UPDATE 11/2/2012

Yet another digital – if slightly more upbeat – update has been released by Cat Power. Yesterday, the singer tweeted:

EUROPEAN TOUR IS ON. WITHOUT STAGE PRESENTATION. HARD MONEY WASTED. #GOODBYE #GORILLA

So while international fans can expect a more minimalist show, at least there’s a show to be expected!

UPDATE 10/31/2012

While, as of now, Cat Power still plans on finishing out the rest of her North American fall tour, the singer’s health and financial issues may cause her to postpone or even cancel her European dates. Power posted the following note to Instagram yesterday:

I MAY HAVE TO CANCEL MY EUROPEAN TOUR DUE TO BANKRUPTCY & MY HEALTH STRUGGLE WITH ANGIOEDEMA. I HAVE NOT THROWN IN ANY TOWEL, I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT BEST I CAN DO. HEART BROKEN. WORKED SO HARD. GOT SICK DAY AFTER “SUN” CAME OUT & BEEN STRUGGLING TO KEEP ALL POINTS OF ME IN EQUILIBRIUM : MIND, SPIRIT, BODY HEALTHY CENTERED & GROUNDED. I AM DOING THE BEST I CAN. I FUCKING LOVE THIS PLANET. I REFUSE TO GIVE UP. THOUGH I MAY NEED TO RESTRATAGIZE FOR MY SECURITY & HEALTH.

While nothing official has been announced yet, we’ll continue to provide updates on Cat Power’s upcoming performances.

UPDATE 10/22/2012

Cat Power has gained a new tourmate for a series of upcoming fall concerts. Popular indie act Willis Earle Beale canceled several headlining shows to travel with the songwriter, joining her for four shows that will last through the end of the month. Beale’s latest itinerary is as follows:

Date City State Venue
10/23/2012 New York NY Hammerstein Ballroom
10/24/2012 Boston MA House Of Blues
10/27/2012 Royal Oak MI Royal Oak Music Theater
10/28/2012 Chicago IL Riviera Theatre

Original Post

It’s been six years since Cat Power, the bluesy vocalist somewhere between Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell, released an album of new material. That makes the former Charlyn Marie Marshall’s recent announcement of Sun’s imminent debut – and accompanying tour – that much more exciting for fans who’ve been crying, waiting, hoping for the singer to step back up to the mic.

Power last released an album in 2006, the successful The Greatest. The work turned its creator into a critical darling, marking a career-high that culminated in Power becoming the first female solo act to win the Shortlist Music Prize.

Sun will attempt to live up to the success of its predecessor through a series of promotional dates, spread throughout October and November. Check below for concerts in your area, and don’t forget to keep scrolling for available ticket links!
