Everyone’s favorite metal/satire group is set to hit the road again, as a new GWAR tour has been announced in the wake of the band’s 30th year together. Composed of members from metal favorites Cannabis Corpse and Municipal Waste, fans who see GWAR live in concert will get to see another special guest during the latter half of the tour. Hatebreed will be on board for five of the final 2013 GWAR tour dates, the result of years of attempts for the two fan favorites to share a stage. The first half of the tour will include a number of festivals, including one headlined by Alice Cooper & Marilyn Manson.
If you haven’t seen GWAR live, well, you’re in for one of the most unique, disgusting, terrifying, and sometimes hilarious performances your eyes have ever seen. Fake decapitations, animal sacrifices, and characters from their various albums haunt the stage and splatter the crowd with blood from all angles. While the band isn’t as prone to comedy as in their earliest career phases, they maintain a sense of humor (evident here in a cover of “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas). And, as fantastical as their entertainment is, they are not immune from the real world. Guitarist Cory Smoot passed away suddenly on a tour bus in 2011 and the band retired his character, Flattus Maximus, out of respect following the tragedy. GWAR is truly one of a kind, with the depth of identity and willingness to shock fans rarely seen in any industry. This is your chance to buy a GWAR ticket, welcome them to your town, and let them slay.
