Yet another lauded musician has reached the 50-year career milestone, delighting European fans with an upcoming anniversary tour in spring of 2013. Eric Clapton will celebrate his half-century in the music industry by playing several UK arenas, visiting only two venues outside of London – Birmingham’s LG Arena and Manchester’s O2 Apollo – before settling into a five-day residency at Royal Albert Hall.
As if the longevity of Clapton’s career weren’t achievement enough, these past 50 years have seen the prolific singer/songwriter/guitarist rack up a slew of awards and slots on “Best Of” lists. Perhaps the most prestigious of the latter, Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” named Clapton the second-best strummer to have ever held a pick, just behind demi-god guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Additionally, the triple-threat musician is also the only entertainer to have ever been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times: as a solo musician, and as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream. That’s a lot of history – and hits – to commemorate in seven days, but if anyone is up to the challenge, it’s the man who’s made a career out of sounding wonderful every night he takes the stage.
