Beyond the Milkshake: Kelis Releases ‘Food’
Everyone’s favorite boss(y) songstress Kelis has just announced her first tour in three years. She, of crowd gathering milkshake fame, will be touring in support of her newest album Food, which is scheduled for release on April 22. Food will be Kelis’s first album via independent label Ninja Tune. Fans of Kelis’s previous pop hits can expect a change in direction with the album, which has been described as more neo-soul with a ’90s vibe than anything else. If the cuisine heavy themes of this album seem foreign to listeners, it’s because you may not know that Kelis is more than just an artist. Having graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, this New York City native is also a trained saucier, with a newly premiered show, “Saucy and Sweet,” on Cooking Channel.
Kelis’s short, but sweet, U.S. leg of the tour will kick off in San Francisco at The Fillmore on June 2. The singer will be making stops in several large cities thereafter: Los Angeles’s El Rey Theatre on June 4, NYC’s Webster Hall on June 13, and DC’s 9:30 Club on June 15. The U.S. stops are sandwiched between two European legs including a late June stop at the Glastonbury Festival on June 27 through June 29.
