Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett Collab on Upcoming Album
Sitting atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza on the Today Show, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett announced yesterday that they would be combining forces for a jazz album. Due out September 23, the album will be titled Cheek to Cheek [insert joke about Lady Gaga's flawless buttcheeks here]. The pairing might come as an unusual choice to some, but Gaga says she’s been singing jazz classics since she was 13: “I sang ‘Orange Colored Sky’ in this event that we [she and Bennett] did together to raise money for the impoverished people of New York City. He heard me sing the song and he said ‘I love it… You want to do an album together?’ And I said, ‘Of course!’”
Bennett says that Gaga is a great jazz singer, and “she improvises every time we do a song. We do it over and over and it’s different every time.” While Bennett is no spring chicken at age 87, one wonders if the two will take their show on the road for a tour. Earlier this year, Gaga had a successful run with her #Artpop shows and the closing out of Roseland Ballroom, and in the past Bennett has remarked that he would never retire, stating “If you are creative, you get busier as you get older.” Let the tour rumors start swirling! Nothing yet, but if we know Tony and Gaga (ugh, we don’t but we so wish we did), we’d guess that chances are high.
