Lauryn Hill New Album

15 years after the critically-acclaimed, crazy smash hit The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (which took home an armful of Grammy Awards, including one for Album of the Year in 1998), Ms. Lauryn Hill herself has announced via Tumblr that she’s signed a new recording deal with Sony Worldwide. Why? She wants to release some new tunes. Hill hasn’t sent out a full studio album since her Miseducation days, though a single, “Repercussions,” was released in 2010. Hill went on to explain that her lengthy hiatus was due to a lack of artistic and economic freedom, and that this new foray into her own label will give her the freedom she’s searched for during her tumultuous career.

Hill’s legal troubles are well documented, as she neglected to file federal income tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007. While in court, Hill said she had to go into hiding to protect her and her six children from some sort of media-controlled conspiracy. Crazy? Maybe. But as well all know, “crazy” makes for some awfully good tunes. We can’t wait to see what she’s sitting on after all these years.
