Naughty By Nature Tour

20 years ago, Naughty By Nature released a song that became a hip-hop anthem in the mid-’90s as well as a staple at every NBA arena in the nation. One thing that stood out for me in the video in that last link: A hip-hop video with Christian Laettner in a turtle neck? That’s tough, man.

I also remember the jam serving as the calling card of Ken Griffey Jr. every time he stepped to the bat in the Kingdome in Seattle.

“Hip Hop Hooray” went on to reach No. 8 on the pop charts and boasted a chorus of “hey…ho…hey…ho” that is among the most popular choruses in hip-hop’s history.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the song, the trio is heading out on a tour during the spring that, as of right now, will visit 13 cities across the United States and Canada.

Kicking off close to their backyard of East Orange, NJ, on February 24 in New York City at The Gramercy Theatre, the tour will also visit Washington DC, Norfolk, Winston-Salem, Panama City, Miami, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Montreal, Kalamazoo, Chicago, and Durham, with the last date as of right now in Philadelphia on June 1 as part of The Roots Picnic.
