Pixies Announce Tour (Minus Founding Member Kim Deal)
The Pixies Tour
Boston-based alternative rock band the Pixies has announced the first leg of their upcoming world tour. Kicking off in Paris, the band will complete a series of European dates through Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Geneva, Milan, and more. It’s the Pixies‘ first tour without founding member, vocalist, and bassist Kim Deal, who departed the band earlier this year. The Muff‘s Kim Shattuck will replace her on bass. Frontman Black Francis (also known as Frank Black) promised “songs that we haven’t played in ages or never played live before,” as well as brand spankin’ new material. This tour sounds like the ultimate experience for a big Pixies fan! Coordinating with the tour announcement, the Pixies released “Bagboy,” their first song and video in nearly a decade (see the video below).
Formed in 1986, the Pixies had significant influence on the 1990s alternative rock scene. Though the band achieved modest success in the United States, they were huge in the United Kingdom and Europe (doesn’t this seem to happen with all great bands?). The Pixies disbanded in 1993, only to reunite for new tunes and touring in 2004.
