Update

For those who veer more on the side of a Dirty Projectors fan, rather than The National, here’s some good news: The six-piece experimental rock band have added dates to their spring tour. Originally slated to kick off on April 19, they’re now starting with an April 14 show in Syracuse, NY, at the Wescott Theatre, followed by a show at Pearl Street Nightclub in Northampton, MA. You can also catch them on April 17 at the Port City Music Hall in Portland, ME, and in the hippie capital of the East Coast, Burlington, VT, on April 18.

Update

In more headline news, The National will make their Tribeca Film Festival debut this May, starring as the subjects of a new documentary, Mistaken For Strangers. Directed by Tom Berninger, brother of The National lead singer Matt, the film chronicles Tom’s experiences working as a roadie on the group’s tour (which included a 2010 Obama rally, among other international appearances). Though Berninger “starts off with dreams of making a rock documentary… a different story emerges as tensions among the band members lead to unforeseen drama.”

Sounds juicy. For AmEx users, tickets to the festival go on sale March 4, while the general public has to wait one week later, until March 11, for their chance to snag seats.

The National Tour 2013: Ft. Dirty Projectors

The rough indie equivalent of Jay-Z and JT’s “Legends of the Summer” tour, The National and Dirty Projectors’ upcoming concert series will see two giants of their genres teaming up for a string of dual-headlining gigs. Before both bands play Bonnaroo in June, they’ll help spread the hype, the heartache (The National) and the harmonies (DP) for a few shows toward the beginning of the month. The groups are slated to part ways right after the music fest ends, when the Dirty Projectors head home after three months of touring (their performances begin in April) and The National jet off to Europe.

Although neither ensemble has a new album to promote (as of now), both acts are embarking on full-fledged solo tours around their collaborative dates. The Dirty Projectors will hit the road first, visiting Rhode Island, Alabama and Washington state from April-May, before meeting up with The National on June 6 in Columbia, MD. From there, the bands will travel side-by-side until Bonnaroo on the 13th. After the Tennessee event draws to a close, The National will bid a fond farewell to both their tourmates and home country, as they take off for Europe and the rest of their summer tour. Germany, Belgium, Ireland, and Italy will all be treated to rousing renditions of “Sorrow” and other hits off High Violet, as well as selections from Boxer and perhaps some new material off the group’s TBA new album, tentatively scheduled for release this spring.

We’ve got tickets to both The National and Dirty Projectors’ joint and solo shows below, and be sure to check back here for more links as they become available!
