Canadian indie rock outfit The New Pornographers have just announced plans for their first album (the band’s sixth) in four years. To be called Brill Bruisers, it’s set to be released on August 26 via Matador Records. And of course, they’re hitting the road for an extensive tour to promote these new tunes. The tour starts on October 5 at The Showbox in Seattle, WA, and from there, the band will make stops in Portland, OR; Boise, ID; Salt Lake City, UT; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Tucson, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Nashville, TN; Asheville, NC; Atlanta, GA; New Orleans, LA; Omaha, NE; Milwaukee, WI; New York, NY; and Boston, MA. The tour ends with a show in Carrboro, NC at Cat’s Cradle on November 23. The New Pornographers are also set to play a few festival shows before their official tour, playing sets at Pemberton Music Festival, Sonic Boom Festival, and Riot Fest. The Pains of Being Pure At Heart will provide support. For ticketing information, visit the band’s website.

Though not in receipt of crazy commercial success, each of the band’s first four albums (or a solo album of a member) were named top albums in their respective years, so it is safe to say the band is a critical darling. Blender named their first album, Mass Romantic, the 24th best-indie album of all-time.
