The Who in 2015: 50 Years & a Farewell
The Who Farewell Tour
Rock & Roll Hall of famers The Who have announced that 2015 is going to be their final year on tour. Remaining original band members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey revealed detailed for The Who 50th anniversary tour dates, scheduled for next year, and also commemorating the band’s inception in 1965. Before The Who Farewell Tour arrives, however, they still have plenty left in the tank to celebrate. On November 12, a special edition of rock opera Tommy will be released; it is the latest reprisal of one of their many classic albums since last year’s Quadrophenia release, and The Who concerts celebrating the album’s 40th anniversary.
News of The Who final concert tour was dropped during promotion of the upcoming documentary Sensation: The Story of The Who’s TOMMY. The original music for the rock opera was released in 1969. The Who’s farewell concerts are imminent, in part, because of the declining health of both Townshend and Daltrey. Since their full reunion in 1999 after over 15 years apart, The Who concerts have continued to be a major draw from fans spanning many generations. Last year’s Quadrophenia tour was the second such commemorative effort for that particular album, and it was a huge hit. Riding the wave of Tommy, which includes the new fans a deluxe album will garner, The Who is sure to be as popular in their 50th year as they were in 1965.
