Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Not ‘Refugees’, Just Planning A Tour
Legendary rock group Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers certainly aren’t resting on their laurels. They’ve just announced the release of their first studio albums in four years, Hypnotic Eye, due out July 29. And to support this record, they will of course be hitting the road, and Steve Winwood will be joining them as a special guest. The North American tour kicks off on August 3 at the Viejas Arena in San Diego, CA, and then continues through Boise, ID; Eugene, OR; Vancouver, BC; Calgary, AB; Boston, MA (at Fenway Park); New York, NY (at Madison Square Garden, that is, if Billy Joel can get a night off); and Lincoln, NE; before wrapping the whole thing up with a show on October 10 at The Forum in Los Angeles, CA. Tickets for a majority of the shows hit the market on Saturday, May 31. Canadians, you’re in luck: pre-sale tickets for your shows will be available Monday, May 26.
Though Petty and his band charted many of their hits in the 1970s and 1980s, their brand of classic rock is still popular with the young kids today. He continues to host sold-out shows whenever he tours, filled with audiences ranging in age from millennials to baby boomers. Petty has sold more than 80 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
