Best Metal & Heavy Metal Songs

Although it’s suffered critical derision and often mass misunderstanding, heavy metal is one of the most popular music genres of the past 50-odd years. An offshoot of classic rock n’roll, metal has its roots in blues and psychedelic rock, and is far from the unmelodious barrage of noise many listeners take it for – although a love of sound and its limits certainly characterizes many of metal’s most famous innovators. More recently, punk and digital influences have crept their way into the genre’s ever-changing sound, placing it among the more interesting musical offshoots of the modern age.
