The Lumineers Bio

To date, The Lumineers haven’t given us much in terms of quantity, but the quality of their self-titled debut album is indisputable. Having achieved gold status in multiple countries including the US – and platinum in Ireland – The Lumineers‘ take on folk rock has hit a sweet spot with fans through their first offering. It’s hard to imagine a list of the best Lumineers songs ever in about 20 years without thinking of their current strong singles “Ho Hey” and “Stubborn Love” being in the running. The Lumineers peaked at number two on the Billboard charts based on the strength of these songs, and the added commercial success and distribution of those songs will forever be the foundation on which The Lumineers fandom is based.

Based in Denver, Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites started the band and later added Neyla Pekarek, Stelth Ulvang, and Ben Wahamaki to round out their sound prior to a tour in support of their debut album. Although they failed to win either of the Grammy Awards for which they were nominated, many fans and critics considered The Lumineers top ten in their books for 2012 debuts. Live shows sold out in impressive fashion, sometimes necessitating a move to larger venues where possible. The Lumineers music may be a throwback to traditional folk rock, but their personality and unique take on the genre is obvious to fans. They’re not just sneaking through on the coattails of a revival; The Lumineers are helping to light the way for their peers and the future bands they’ll inspire while keeping true to their roots. No matter how simple, if you do it well and you do it with heart, music fans will be there to listen.
