Yonder Mountain String Band Adds August Shows to Summer Tour
Indie bluegrass band Yonder Mountain String Band (or YMSB to their fans) have announced that they’re adding a string of shows in August to their already packed summer touring schedule. The guys are currently playing shows throughout the Midwest till the end of June. They’ll continue through July with performances in Nashville, Ohio, Michigan, Pittsburgh, upstate New York and New Hampshire. The August leg will start at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA, on August 21. From there, it’s on to Baltimore and then North Carolina, where they’ll play Black Mountain on August 23, Charlotte on August 28 and Wilmington on August 28. They’ll finish up the summer with two shows in Virginia — the NorVA in Norfolk on August 30 and the Jefferson Theater on August 31.
Formed in 1998, the Yonder Mountain String Band has become a dominant presence in the American bluegrass scene. They’ve released ten albums since 1999 (the majority of them on their own record label, Frog Pad Records), the last three of which have reached the top spot in the U.S. bluegrass charts. This current tour is the group’s first since the departure of mandolin player and vocalist Jeff Austin in April.
