Baltimore Ravens Three Main Advantages over KC Chiefs Defense, Experience and Toughness

Experience

The Baltimore Ravens bring three straight years of making the post season into Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon. Do not underestimate the additional pressure of not only playing on a national stage, but also in a “one-and-done” scenario as well. Having won three road playoff games in QB Joe Flacco’s first two seasons gives the Ravens a huge advantage over the surprising Chiefs, who went from “worst-to-first” this year to win the AFC West. While Baltimore is the Wild Card and the 5th seed, their 12-4 regular season record was tied for the second best in the AFC.

Defense

The Ravens have one of the top defensive units in the league and while they are on the road, the word around the league is that defense always seems to travel well. Baltimore beat three of the league’s playoff teams in the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, and only lost to those same Steelers, the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons by a combined eleven points. On the other hand, the Chiefs only went 1-2 in games against teams that finished the season with winning records, losing to the Indianapolis Colts and splitting their two games with the San Diego Chargers, getting shut out in the second one, 31-0.

Toughness

The combination of playing the tougher regular season schedule along with the playoff-tested road experience give the Ravens the “keys to victory” even before the teams hit the field. While the game is not played on paper, the Ravens have proven that they are among the toughest teams in the league on both sides of the ball and will force Kansas City to play its best game of the season if they hope to compete and come out on top in this Wild Card weekend match-up.
