With the NBA season still up in the air, basketball fans must seek elsewhere for the same thrill and excitement. Fortunately for them, the 2011-12 NCAA season is about to kick off in the most unusual fashion – on an aircraft carrier. In honor of Veteran’s Day, USS Carl Vinson (docked in San Diego’s harbor) will transform into a basketball arena to host the first ever Carrier Classic. The set-up in the picture above will seat as many as 7,500 people. The game tips off tomorrow (college basketball season start date: 11/11/11) at 7pm EST between the Michigan State Spartans and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Among those in attendance will be the President Barack Obama. Other notables in attendance? Michigan State’s camouflage uniforms.

*The game will be played indoors if it rains on the day of the event. As of right now, there is 70% chance of precipitation.

How To Get Tickets

You can’t. That goes for 99% of you.
Here’s why: The tickets weren’t available to the public. Most of the tickets were given to active military personnel, veterans, and few others lucky enough to survive the ticket lottery.

Now for the remaining 1%, there’s a couple of ways to get tickets:
1) You are either Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan.
2) You can pull some serious strings at either MSU or UNC.

At least this time around, watching it on TV sounds like a good idea.

Get ready for college hoops (and hopefully NBA hoops).
